We Can All Wise Up With The Wise House

The saying goes that when you start to care about something, say, an environmental issue, such as global warming, you become more aware of other issues that you previously had not considered. I think it is hard not to, because deciding to care about a cause requires us to learn new things with an open mind.

We believe that when we all open our minds up to new ideas amazing things can happen! Usually, the best thing to happen is we learn much more than we first set out to, and once we care about something bigger than ourselves there is often no going back.

This is very true for me. My passion for starting Into The Eco began with taking an interest in slow fashion, human rights within the garment sector and talking openly about what I thought was wrong with the fashion industry. Over the years my passion moved away from ranting to my family and friends, and frankly wearing myself out, to wanting to take action. These actions have manifested so far in the small ways I have felt possible.

Through this interest in fashion, I have found it almost impossible to stop this passion spilling over into other areas of modern day life. Leading me to think about how I can have a positive impact through my wardrobe choices, but also how we can have a more positive impact through our home lives too. There are so many layers to the sustainable revolution. This has lead us to cutting meat out of our diets as much as possible, recycling religiously, cycling to work when the weather allows, wearing our clothes for longer, and moving away from single-use plastics when given a choice. All good places to start I am sure you will agree.

The Wise House

We have started demanding more eco-conscious products in our home, but of course, we are still learning every day how to make more ethical and environmentally friendly choices; such as reusable options instead of disposable, and supporting start-up businesses with good intentions as much as we can, instead of the corporate giants.

We see this as a really exciting time for investing our purchases in shops with a soul, where we can feel confident that our money is supporting the kind of world we would like to live in.

So with all this in mind, we would love to tell you more about this idea and Introduce you to a great online store called The Wise house. A company that is dedicated to supplying us with products to enrich our everyday lives with well curated, ethical and zero waste solutions. Initially, we became aware of TWH through Instagram and are so glad that we did!

The Wise house does exactly what the name implies, provides us with wise household items, beauty products and gifts to help combat single use or throw away goods, through their joyful selection of products made to use over and over.

The Wise House

The wise house opened its doors 5 years ago, starting from the very organic seeds of one woman’s interest for better products. Since then, owner, Lucy has grown the company through a lifetime of passion. Now her genuine enthusiasm shines through at the heart of everything The Wise House stands for, making it hard to not leave the online store a little inspired, by its approachable nature and obvious family values.

Once, when Josh and I were enjoying looking around our local farmers market, we got into a conversation with a lady buying some handmade ceramic mugs. She said something which has stuck with me “If you are buying something you know you will use every day, make sure it is beautiful.” Something as small as a mug, a light switch, or even a lunch box, as they will subconsciously bring you joy every day. I really like this mentality, of attention to detail, and appreciating the small things, it is something Josh and I try to stick to.

This is what The Wise House store feels like, a well put together market of items which will make clingfilm a thing of the past and says no to mundane tupperware. We have been lucky enough to be able to try some of The Wise House products, and only have good feedback to report. Receiving our package was quick and presented very nicely with no plastic packaging in sight (which we love).

Firstly we would like to discuss the lovely 100% organic cotton, loose-fitting T-shirt. TWH stock a range of different shapes and colours to select from. I chose the short sleeved tee in vintage white, as I have been looking for a really nice basic tee for a while now.

The Wise House

A lot of the stores I was looking at before I found nice basics but some seemed a little pricey, whereas TWH tee is so reasonably priced at only £13. Bargain! I am really happy with this top, it fits nicely and is very comfortable. It can be worn on its own in the summer and it will compliment layering underneath tops in the winter, it is so comfy you could even wear it to bed.

Made from the finest (GOTS certified) organic cotton, making them very comfortable to wear and breathable against your skin. A bit of information for you about the benefits of organic cotton.

The Wise House

Cotton that has been grown organically drastically reduces the amount of water used in the growing stage, crops are allowed to rotate and grow naturally without the use of harmful pesticides, chemical fertilisers, and GMO’s. Which is great for us as we know the clothes we are wearing are not harmful to us or the people who worked with the crops. Farmers working on organic cotton fields have dramatically improved livelihoods, and are not at risk from coming into contact with poisonous chemicals whilst working. This is also very beneficial for the land where it is grown as it prevents water contamination and conserves biodiversity.

They say that your Mum always knows best, well this is true in this situation. Mother nature always knows best! If anyone disagrees with that then they don’t know my Mum (always take an umbrella out when she says it will rain). All in all, it is safe to say this is my new favourite wardrobe staple.

The Wise House

The second product we love is the Bee’s Wax Wrap. Swapping clingfilm/foil for a sustainable replacement seemed like a no-brainer. TWH is the UK’s first stockist of Bee’s Wrap, an eco-friendly, reusable alternative. Bee’s Wrap is made from an organic muslin cloth steeped in beeswax, jojoba oil and tree resin.

The Wise House

It comes in 3 different sizes, (small, medium and large) and can be used to cover bowls and wrap a wide range of foods. It is naturally malleable, water resistant and airtight with the added bonus of keeping food fresh due to the antibacterial properties of the natural oils.

For anyone who has any reservations about this swap, please believe us when we say it has been a joy to use so far, much faster than tearing clingfilm and so much prettier. The warmth of your hands makes it easy to mould, yet it will stay put as it cools down. Simply wipe it down after using and pat dry and you are ready to use it again.

The Wise House

If you want to start switching to multiple usage items this is a great place to start! This is a big one for us, especially when you hear statistics that currently only 45% of recyclable goods are actually recycled each year, meaning that the other 55% is being sent to landfill or incinerated, causing harm to the environment. We think it is important to take actions now as the amount of waste we create is increasing all the time.**

Last but not least is the delicious Evolve Organic Beauty, radiant glow Cacao and Coconut face mask, made from 100% natural ingredients. It is rich and indulgent and honestly smells good enough to eat. I have never used a product before that smells quite this satisfying.

I had to use it straight away, even Josh was keen to give it a try. We really enjoyed using this, the sweet smell of chocolate made me feel so happy when applying, whilst small coconut granules exfoliate your skin.

The Wise House

Natural sugar extracts turn the exfoliating mask into a creamy milk on contact and it rinses off easily with water. It left our skin feeling smooth, calm and revitalised. My skin felt so clear afterwards it made me want to take a no make-up selfie. This one would make such a nice gift for anyone you know who loves chocolate and a bit of a pampering session.

We already have some bits in mind we want to buy as gifts, such as the stainless steel drinks bottles, and if you interested in purchasing some thoughtful gifts for friends and family, TWH also offers lovely tailored gift box sets. This is a unique and easy way to give a thoughtful gift whilst introducing people to natural, ethical products.

The best news of all is that Lucy does all the hard work for us boxing it up beautifully, all you have to decide is what goes into the box from the list of suggestions and how much you would like to spend. From the quality of the products we received we think it is all priced very reasonably and would be happy to receive any of the products as gifts. (Hint Hint)

If you need more convincing all you have to do is head on over to the website for yourself and read many of the positive reviews from past happy customers. We also recommend checking out Lucy’s lovely and very informative blog, where you can find out more about her and her families journey so far. You can also find more independent information about the products that are available to buy, from a very honest and quite frankly refreshing point of view.

We are all about the personal touches, so it is nice to see insights into Lucy’s efforts to live a mindful and sustainable life. We feel it adds that extra bit of satisfaction when spending our hard earned money, and it is great to see that The Wise House really is the real deal. Happy shopping.

Lots of love,

Into The Eco
